How can I clean the lenses at home?

If the instructions for your glasses allow it, rinse off dust with lukewarm water, use a little mild soap and dry gently with clean microfibre. When out and about, use a cleaner intended for glasses and follow its directions. [1]

Why should I avoid wiping them with my shirt?

The fabric and dust on it can damage the lens surface. Avoid rubbing a dry, dusty lens. Keep your microfibre cloth clean and away from objects that could dirty it. [1]

Where should I keep my glasses?

Use a hard protective case when you are not wearing them. Avoid leaving them lens-side down or loose in a bag. Do not leave them in a hot car: high temperatures can damage lenses and their coatings. [2]

Can I use any glass cleaner?

No. Household window cleaner is not necessarily suitable for spectacle lenses. Check compatibility with the coating and the manufacturer’s advice. Glasses cleaner is not contact lens cleaner. [2]

What if my frame is bent or a lens is scratched?

Avoid improvised heating, gluing or polishing. Take the glasses to an optician to discuss their condition and your options. If you want a new frame, bring your current pair as a guide to size and comfort.

How do I choose my next everyday pair?

Try the frame on and talk about your work, reading and time outdoors. At Optika Rodenstock, we will consider available frames and lenses for your prescription. Ask for the specific care instructions for your chosen model.
