What should I look for on the label?

Check for UV400, 100% UV protection or blocking of 99–100% of UVA and UVB rays. If the information is missing, ask for the specification. Colour, price and appearance alone do not establish protection. [1]

Do darker lenses offer better protection?

Darkness is not proof of UV protection. Tint relates to visible light, while UV protection needs separate confirmation. Consider coverage around the eyes and frame comfort as well. [1]

Does a hat replace sunglasses?

A wide-brimmed hat is a useful addition, but it does not replace sunglasses with suitable UV protection. Use them together as conditions require. Ordinary sunglasses are not intended for looking directly at the sun. [1]

Can sunglasses include my prescription?

Yes, Optika Rodenstock can take orders for tinted prescription sunglass lenses. Ask which frames suit the order, what the lens specifications are and how long they take to make. Not every combination is immediately available.

Are photochromic lenses or magnetic clips an option?

We also offer photochromic lenses and frames with magnetic sun clips. Your prescription, frame and intended use influence the choice. Ask for the exact UV specification and behaviour of the particular lenses; do not assume all models perform alike.
